Your special day is rapidly approaching. Your venue, caterer, and photographer are all lined up…but is your smile ready for the big day?
Try these fool-proof tips and tricks to make your smile shine on the big day.
One month before:
Teeth whitening at Smile Spa (in-office bleaching): The Smile Spa offers the quick and effective Boost whitening system. Your teeth will be multiple shades whiter in just one 2-hour appointment.
Post treatment: “Anything that will stain your dress will stain your teeth”—pores are still open in tooth enamel for the first week after treatment, so avoid foods like blueberries and soy sauce and drinks like coffee, tea and red wine. For an even whiter smile, try giving at least a few of these drinks and foods up for the entire month before.
Touch up trays: For all of us with a coffee addition, have no fear. Our in-office treatment comes with free touch-up trays and bleach for easy at-home maintenance. Use 2-3 weeks before the wedding to keep stains at bay.
One week before:
Strike a pose: Find your best angle that enhances your face and smile. Look at recent pictures or practice in the mirror to perfect that pose so come picture time, you can focus on that beautiful, genuine smile.
Exfoliate lips: After the showers, the parties and the photoshoots are finally over, your lips could use some R&R to prepare for the big day. Add a quick lip exfoliation to your bedtime routine about a week before for smooth and luscious lips. Start by gently buffing away lipstick build-up and dry skin with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Lather your lips with a thick lip balm and sleep with it overnight. Some people have more sensitive skin than others, so be sure to test exfoliate about a week before the wedding day.
On the big day:
Lipstick color: The right lip color makes all the difference. Stay away from the oranges, the corals and the browns as they give the teeth a yellowish cast. Instead, try a red or pink with cool or blue undertones. Sounds strange, but it works. The blue counteracts traces of stains to make your smile look shades brighter.
Lipstick formula: While matte formulas last longer, they actually make your teeth appear darker because they absorb more light. Instead, opt for a creamier formula with a little shimmer or shine or a lip gloss. The shimmer and shine will reflect the light, making your white smile even brighter.
Lipstick plan: To make your lip color and white smile last all day and night, follow this three-step plan.
- Prime: Before you apply, use a lip smoother or raw sugar to remove any leftover lipstick or dead skin from last night’s rehearsal.
- Line: Lip-lining is back in style (who said it ever went out)! Liner helps secure a long-lasting color, but can also dry out your lips. Choose a hydrating, colorless liner to make your color and smile pop.
- Stain: To boost that long-lasting color, apply lipstick with a brush. The brush really presses the color into the lip, creating a stain-like effect. Added bonus: the brush gives you more control to create your perfect smile (just imagine—no smudges or smears on your teeth!).
Keep in mind—a healthy, brilliant smile starts with a great oral health routine. Brush, floss, and see your dentist regularly to keep that smile dazzling all year long.
